    There are both Federal and state laws that protect workers against discrimination by employers. Illinois workers are protected by the Illinois Human Rights Act, also referred to as “the Act”. This Illinois law goes further than some Federal laws to protect workers from discrimination by employers and prevent wrongful termination or forced resignation based on illegal discrimination.

    Were you forced to quit your job because of harassment or discrimination? While forced resignation isn’t the same as getting fired if you were forced to quit a job because of something illegal that your employer did, you can file a wrongful termination claim against that employer. Employers sometimes put employees in positions where they have no choice but to quit,  like cutting their hours down to almost nothing. But that’s discrimination, and you can file a wrongful termination suit against an employer for that.

    Everything You Need to Know About the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

    The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) is a new federal law set to take effect in the United States on June 27, 2023. After this date, victims of workplace pregnancy discrimination that represents a violation of the PWFA may pursue justice through the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). 

    The PWFA does not eliminate or override other federal and state laws addressing pregnancy discrimination. Instead, it adds to them by clarifying the degree to which employers must provide reasonable accommodations to certain employees.
